The Turkish capital, Ankara, hosted the International Volunteer Day Conference on December 7, 2018, in the official presence of representatives of the Turkish government and representatives of international organizations.

The aim of the conference is to recognize the solidarity of volunteers around the world who respond to calls in times of crisis, helping to save lives today and support those who want to continue to live their lives with dignity tomorrow.

The Director of Projects in the Union, Mr. Ihsan Arslan, participated in the conference. Among the most prominent attendees were the country representative of UNFPA “The United Nations Fund for Population Activities” in Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia, Mr. Karl Kulessa, and the Turkish Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasaboglu, in addition to the Deputy Minister of Family, Labor and Social Affairs Ms. Aisha Kardash Erkesen and Ms. Alexandra Solovieva, Communications and External Relations Officer, United Nations Volunteers Germany Branch.


During the conference, a report was launched on the state of global volunteerism and its role in enhancing society's resilience and how governments and development actors can better engage with volunteerism to enhance its benefits.
